Our History
The Sam Levitz Furniture story began almost 100 years ago. Since 1953, Sam Levitz Furniture has been Tucson's premier furniture source and has been known for the very best quality at the lowest price. |
|
Our story begins in Lebanon, PA in 1910 when Sam's father, R.B. Levitz, opened a General Mercantile store. 6 of his 7 children worked in the furniture business.
|
There was a store front on Main Street in Lebanon and a huge delivery dock with a fleet
of trucks. | |
|
Sam Levitz moved to Tucson in the early forties. In 1953 he opened a furniture
store and in 1955 he opened the world's first Direct-to-You Furniture Warehouse.
People came from miles around.
|
Sam and Lee Levitz were married in 1964 and became well known community icons. November 1, 1974, the current Warehouse Showroom was opened to the public
|
Sam & Lee's daughters were part of the team, too. Kandie Levitz Vactor managed
the business from 1977 to 1986 and Kathi Levitz Peters still handles
broadcast advertising. The 100,000 square foot warehouse was the most modern
facility in the world | |
|
In 1991, Sam's son, Sam R. Levitz, continued the tradition for a third generation when he took over as President. The Northwest side Showroom opened at Orange
Grove and Thornydale in 1996. It was totally remodeled in 2001 into a Mega-Store with a"Broyhill Showplace" and Design Center.
| |
|
A huge Eastside Showroom and Clearance Center was opened at Pantano and Broadway in 2001.
Today, Sam Levitz Furniture is one of Tucson's largest private employers. Our longtime dedicated staff has carried on our almost 100 years of tradition. The Sam Levitz Team brings continued committment to Sam Levitz' vision of providing
"Brand Name Furniture at Low Warehouse Prices".
